Model P 138

Model P-138

Vertical Electroplating System

Features and Benefits

The Model P-138 is designed specifically to make high quality stampers for optic disc replication and microelectro-mechanical structures (MEMS).   The highly accurate Model P-138 Electroforming System from RPA is a self contained, stand alone system which integrates the plating cell, sump, and controls in one compact package. This revolutionary design represents a culmination of years of optic disc stamper making & semiconductor experience.  The precision system uses several techniques proven useful in the semiconductor industry making the RPA system appropriate for growing high-end optical media stampers such as HD-DVD, Blu-ray, and recordable media stampers.

VERTICAL DESIGN

The P-138 positions the stamper vertically in the bath. This is a revolutionary design for optical media stampers as it permits generated hydrogen gas to naturally release from the cathode (stamper) without the need for excessive electrolyte flow or scrubbing.  By design, this will guarantee zero pit-holes during the plating process since hydrogen bubbles cannot be caught on the plating surface during the process.

CASCADED ANODE

The Model P-138 includes a fully adjustable cascaded anode and fully adjustable baffle system. Three anode baskets may be independently positioned for optimum stamper growth and stamper flatness. Also, the cat ion membrane diaphragm is completely adjustable via a convenient baffle control. This combination of cascaded anode and fully adjustable baffle results in 1.5-micron Total Thickness Variation (TTV). Less than 1.5-micron TTV is achievable in a custom process.  Conventional systems simply adjust the distance between the anode & cathode, but in the Model P-138 the three anode baskets are independently positioned for optimum stamper growth & stamper flatness.

ADJUSTABLE DIAPHRAM AND SPARGER

Also, the P-138 sparger and cat ion membrane diaphragm is completely adjustable.  This combination of cascaded anode and fully adjustable dampers results in very accurate and uniform stamper growth.  This approach is used extensively in the semiconductor industry and is now applied to optic disc stampers with excellent results.  With the adjustments set and the process optimized, the Model P-138 will consistently produce quality, uniform stampers.  Total Thickness Variation (TTV) is typically 1.5-micron and TTV below 1.5-micron is achievable in a custom process.

 ENHANCED FILTERING SYSTEM

The anode electrolyte backwashing is adjustable such that the solution throughout the cell receives some live flow.  This keeps the electrolyte balanced & without irregular concentrations or stagnations.  An accurate balance of current density and temperature in the P-138 will grow stampers with very low stress levels.  In combination with the superior filtration and reduced metal impurities, the system grows stampers with very low stress.  DI water and waste water treatment systems are all available directly from RPA .
